Security firm Trend Micro has acquired online storage and synchronisation vendor Humyo.
Based in Leeds, Humyo allows users to back up and share data through a web-based service. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Trend said that it was planning to integrate Humyo into its online security portfolio. The service will be bundled with Trend services and offered as a web-based backup and disaster recovery service for consumers and small businesses.
"Humyo's superior data synchronisation technology, which allows multiple devices including PCs, Macs and smartphones to automatically backup to a common folder in the cloud so that consumer users can easily access their data from whatever device they have in hand, is a clear differentiator that helps to ensure that users' files are always safe and secure as well as effortlessly organised," said Trend Micro chief executive Eva Chen.
"Their online storage, basically a cloud technology, fits into our strategy of providing security from and for the cloud."
Trend has been moving to expand its web-based security offerings in recent months. In March the company overhauled its hosted email security service, while February saw the launch of a web-based port of the Worry Free Business package.
