The Missing Link unveils Department of Defence-level security service

The Missing Link has bundled the Australian Signals Directorate’s “most effective security controls” into a managed service.

According to the ASD, which is part of the Department of Defence, its "Top 4 Strategies to Mitigate Targeted Cyber Intrusions" are “the most effective security controls an organisation can implement at this point in time, based on our current visibility of the cyber threat environment”.

While it had been mandatory since 2013 for government agencies to implement all four strategies, The Missing Link said its offering was the first time the strategies had been packaged into a managed service.

Security director Aaron Bailey said The Missing Link, which topped the 2016 CRN Fast50, repeatedly finds that organisations struggle to implement the basics of patching and the appropriate use of privilege.

“We have aligned with the ASD’s views since our inception, and we decided to make a difference to our clients’ actual security posture by taking the difficulty of implementing and maintaining the ASD Top 4 off their hands,” he said.

Bailey said that while ASD white papers often focused on using Microsoft tools, The Missing Link wanted to ensure the four strategies could also be implemented using technology from Apple, Unix and other providers.

“As such, we thought it important to scour the market for the leading enterprise-class vendors in their space, and we constructed an integrated ASD Top 4 solution set that any of the largest organisations would be happy to implement,” he said.
