Telstra and Samsung are partnering to provide Galaxy S2 9.7-inch tablets for the new 'smart seats' at Etihad Stadium in Melbourne.
Up to 1000 seats will progressively be fitted with in-seat Galaxy S2 tablets as part of the next phase of Etihad Stadium's plan to replace existing video seats for Medallion Club members.
Telstra provided the Cisco IP network, while the content streaming is underpinned by software from Appscore.
Samsung provided technical support to help manage content, app updates and security through its KNOX mobile security platform.
The first leather smart seats were unveiled during AFL Round 12 match between Essendon and Hawthorn on 10 June.
Etihad Stadium acting chief executive Michael Green said: "Now we can offer fans a live match along with HD replay action, virtually in the palm of their hand.
"We have canvassed the globe and looked at technology at some of the world’s great venues and ultimately in association with our partners, Telstra and Samsung, we believe we have produced a global first product which takes the in stadium sports’ experience to another level," said Green.
Samsung Electronics Australia head of mobility Danny Mandrides said: "The Smart Seat solution developed with Etihad Stadium and Telstra involves the creation of an ecosystem of hardware, applications, and software security to support a rich visual experience directly from the stadium seat."
Members will have access to Fox Sports free-to-air channels and Sky Racing and Nickelodeon channels.
In the beginning of 2015, Telstra provided the stadium with a new wireless network, mobile application and IPTV system to support the high-definition screens and free wi-fi access throughout the stadium.
