Telco Field Solutions Group makes double acquisition

Rural and remote telecommunications solutions provider Field Solutions Group (FSG) has acquired wholesale internet provider IP Transit and network-as-a-service provider Ordnance Networks.

The companies operate a national carrier backbone and provide carrier-specific products, services and software.

In an ASX announcement (pdf), FSG said the acquisitions will give it new points of interconnect (POI) in NSW, Queensland, Victoria and Western Australia.

“FSG has been growing consistently over the past two years, it is essential we now develop our underlying network backbone and POI infrastructure, including our network management software and automation,” FSG chief executive Andrew Roberts said.

FSG will offer IP Transit’s product offerings through its Field Wholesale division, and will later be extended to include international POIs in 2020. IP Transit offers wholesale on-demand internet connectivity for carriers and content providers.

Ordnance’s network-as-a-service platform, which helps simplify the provisioning and management of large networks, will be used to power FSG’s core national rural network. FSG also plans to make the platform available to other MSPs and ISPs, also through the Field Wholesale division.

The acquisitions are worth just over $540,000 combined as the initial consideration, with performance-based considerations tied to revenue contributions.

The directors of both IP Transit and Ordnance David Hooton and Lee Campbell-Smith will stay on with the business and have assumed senior management roles within FSG.
