Symantec has integrated its antivirus (AV)and anti-spyware technologies with several additional security applications into one single integrated agent to form its latest security product.
Symantec’s Endpoint Protection 11.0 combines host and network-based intrusion prevention application, device control and network access control (NAC) with AV and anti-spyware for use on laptops, desktops and servers.
According to Robert Pregnell product marketing manager at Symantec APAC Symantec have always believed in consolidating features and capabilities and it has now taken the product to a different level.
“No body else anywhere has been able to consolidate all these capabilities into one agent. These are now a collection of capabilities combined into a smaller footprint agent. Its memory is 84 percent less than its predecessor at 21 percent,” Pregnell told SC.
The increasing threat landscape was a key factor behind Symantec’s move towards a more unified application along with its recent acquisitions including Sygate, Whole security and Veritas.
“AV needs to step up and do more. We’ve got new types of threats, devices and connections which provide new threat vectors. Those threats basically need more than AV and that’s what we’re doing,” said Pregnell.
“It brings together Symantec’s own technologies with those recently acquired and teams worked over 18 months to optimise it,” said Pregnell.
Tom Kendra, group president, security and data management, Symantec claimed it will be easier for businesses to adopt a more effective multi-layered security solution.
“It resets the bar for endpoint security, reducing overhead, time and costs so that customers can efficiently manage security and gain confidence that corporate assets and business are protected,” said Kendra.
The product will be released into the Aussie market on 24 September.
