Sydney startup Mumba Cloud helps employees overcome password fatigue with single app

Sydney-based enterprise mobility startup Mumba Cloud has been winning praise from customers for an application that simplifies myriad human capital management (HCM) systems by integrating their capabilities into a single interface.

The cloud application aims to bringing together the multitude of websites and apps required by large workforces into a company-branded platform available on any device.

Mumba Cloud said most customers have at least six employee systems – each potentially requiring a separate login. Its application aims to eliminate the need to keep track of multiple passwords for system.

One of Mumba's most prominent customers is 12,500-staff ISS Facility Services, one of the largest facility providers in the country. Its services include cleaning, support, aviation security and catering.

Most of the ISS team are based in dispersed customer sites and don't always have access to a computer in their daily jobs.

Mumba worked with ISS to create the MyISS mobile app, which offers access to payroll, roster, leave request approvals and communication all through a single portal. ISS staff responded well, with the company reporting that 92 percent of employees found work easier with the app.

The application was so successful that the two companies won an Australian HR award for 'Best Use of Technology' for MyISS last September.

Along with direct sales, Mumba is also sold via reseller partners, including a partnership with a large unnamed public company that bundles its product into their financial products.

"We realised there was an opportunity to improve the employee experience when using these systems, however, our goal wasn’t to replace HCM systems," said Mumba Cloud chief executive Anthony Zets.

"Rather, we decided to build a range of ready-made modules that would easily plug into these systems and just deliver the most important 20 percent of functionality that front-line employees actually use."

"We, therefore, combined all our modules into a single app that is easily accessed with a single password. And if our app includes the modules for mandatory systems such as pay, leave, rosters etc, then we’re able to guarantee employee adoption."

Mumba Cloud's entire stack is built using Javascript with microservice architecture and leverages the Websockets API protocol. Modules plug into different HCM systems while keeping the same look and interface.
