Sumo jumps on internet-energy bundling bandwagon with Optus Wholesale deal

Melbourne-based gas and electricity retailer Sumo has reached an agreement with Optus Wholesale to sell NBN broadband services bundled with its energy products.

The three-year agreement follows fellow energy provider Origin, who started offering NBN broadband services on Optus’ network last week, and joins the likes of Amaysim and Dodo in the internet-energy bundling space.

“Our agreement with Optus means Sumo customers now have flexible and affordable Sumo branded internet options loaded with data,” Sumo chief executive Paul Cullinan said.

“Even better, Sumo’s internet packages are delivered to customers with month to month plans and no set up fees. It couldn’t be simpler.”

Optus will provide Sumo with fixed line, mobile and home wireless broadband on its NBN network. Postpaid mobile plans are also expected to be available at a later date.

“Sumo’s product offerings are well-placed for a customer segment who want simplicity and want to save on their household expenses,” Optus wholesale & satellite acting managing director John Casto said.

“Our partnership strengthens Sumo’s position in the competitive utility market by adding telco services to their mix – delivering even more to their value-seeking customers.”
