Security vendor Sophos will tackle Adware for the first time with an updated version of its anti-virus software, available to resellers in May.
David Higgins director of sales at Sophos, said Adware - or advertising-supported software, doesn’t pose much of a problem at a consumer level.
However at a coporate level, it takes away a company's right to decide what goes on its network.
“Adware automatically plays, displays, or downloads advertising material to a computer after software is installed on it or while the application is being used,” said Higgins.
“If you are a corporation without control over what is downloaded onto a network—there could be serious security implications.”
Higgins said the company would make no changes to its existing channel program, except for a few minor updates.
“They [resellers] prefer partner programs to remain consistent, so we have decided our programs will remain the same year-in-year out,” he said.
Higgins said channel partners receive an upfront discount of 10 to 25 percent on products purchased, dependent on training and certification level.
