SAP, Gen-i team up in New Zealand

SAP and Telecom New Zealand-owned Gen-i have joined forces to offer some 300 mobile applications to the latter's private sector and government clients.

Mobile applications will be offered for employee productivity and workflow, business processes and engagement, the two companies said.

Platforms targeted include Apple iOS, Google Android, Microsoft Windows Phone and Blackberry 10. The apps will be available on a subscription basis and hosted in local data centres.

The partnership is SAP's first one in Asia-Pacific region for mobile management.

However, it's not clear which private sector customers or government departments would utilise the apps as neither company was willing to name any takers.

"Theoretically any business or Government organisation could utilise mobility services including cloud based apps," a spokesperson for Gen-i told iTnews.

"What we’re offering however is a fresh approach to enterprise mobility that is gaining traction overseas, and we believe the time is right to bring this to market in New Zealand.

"We have just signed the partnership agreement today, so are now looking forward to discussing this opportunity with our clients," the spokesperson said.

Infosys will provide support for the installation of SAP's managed mobile services into the Gen-i cloud, as well as systems integration.
