RIM launches MyBlackBerry user forum

BlackBerry maker Research In Motion (RIM) has launched a new social networking site designed to provide BlackBerry users and those interested in the device with a platform to share information.

The MyBlackBerry site was rumoured to be launching today in the US, but V3.co.uk could not give it a test run because it requires a unique BlackBerry invitation code to register.

Although the site is live, a RIM spokesman would only say it will be launching "soon" in North America and then in further countries "later this year ".

"We want to make it easier for BlackBerry users to have a say," he added.

The brief preview video on the site says that the new service will allow users to "rate and review things", as well as pose and answer questions to and from other members of the MyBlackBerry community, and "find tips and tricks from others to help get the most out of [your] BlackBerry".

According to reports, the site will also be customised depending on the user's particular BlackBerry model.

RIM will be hoping that the new forum-type site will encourage more users to visit and purchase from its App World store, which now lists over 2,000 applications.
