Q&A: Michael Atallah, managing director Gamma Solutions

It will provide LXE repair services throughout Australia and its service engineers will repair and upgrade LXE wearable computers, LXE cold storage rugged handheld computers, LXE scanners and LXE rugged wireless vehicle mounted computers.

Here Michael Atallah, managing director for Gamma Solutions talks to CRN about how resellers can benefit from incorporating wireless technology as part of their offering to customers.

CRN: Has the current economic downturn influenced business decisions made by Gamma Solutions recently?

Atallah: The economic downturn has not influenced our business decisions.

We had some expansion plans that we still went ahead with. We are continuing to spend on marketing.

We are still hiring people.  We are still spending on training.  It is still business as usual.

This is the wrong time to try to save money on what is essential to the business.

CRN: How is Gamma Solutions adapting to the current economic climate?

Atallah: We are going back to the basics focusing our attention on the business fundamentals: keeping a close eye on the debtors, managing our stock levels and maintaining a low risk strategy with regard to foreign exchange.

This is the time to be vigilant with the day to day operation of the business.

CRN: Do you see any growth markets for your business in the short to medium term?

Atallah: Yes I can see growth markets for our business.  RFID and voice are still untapped markets.  Also it is surprising to still find so many companies not using automatic data capture and barcoding to streamline their processes, reduce waste and increase their profitability.

CRN: How can resellers benefit from incorporating wireless technology into their current activities?

Atallah: Wireless Technology help streamline many processes.  Access to data is instant.

Decisions are made with full knowledge of what is the actual position of the company.

Furthermore, with the new wireless technologies a lot can be done with the integration of voice into the mix.

By having better bandwidth, quality is no longer an issue.  Companies can save a lot by integrating voice into their operations.

CRN: What are some of the latest advances in wireless technology that Australian resellers should be aware of?

Atallah: 802.11n networks represent the latest in wireless technologies.

They help streamline wireless technologies to a similar level as a wired network.  It provides up to 9 times the throughput of its predecessor 802.11 a/b/g.

More users, devices and bandwidth are now available throughout the organisation.

It is expected that this new technology will lead to more and better mobility applications and devices emerging as a consequence of this development.
