Out of Adelaide: LeetGeek's Uganda philanthropy mission

A senior exec from award-winning Adelaide reseller LeetGeek is on his way to Uganda after winning a "philanthropic trip" from a local law firm.

Ben Corbett, business development director of the 2012 CRN Fast50 winner, scored the "money can't buy" trip as well as $30,000 in legal expenses from Kain C&C Lawyers after creating a winning video entry.

He will spend two weeks in Uganda working hands-on building houses in the rural village of Gulu.

Corbett joked, "A lot of people have commented that it doesn’t sound like much of a prize", but said he had "always wanted to be involved in some sort of charity work".

"I am very cynical when people come round to collect for charity because I have no visibility on where the funds end up. When I heard about [Kain C&C managing director] John Kain’s view that 'everyone should experience generosity' and learned about the competition, I decided that I simply had to win."

In preparation for the August trip, Corbett has taken it one step further, aiming to raise $5,000 and awareness to support the charity. Seven members of the LeetGeek did multiple legs of the gruelling run up to the summit of Mount Lofty as part of the fundraising drive.

"In just over nine hours, I went up and down Mount Lofty five times, which was just under 40km and 2.875 km for vertical climb," said Corbett.
