The Federal Government has quietly launched into beta a website designed to provide specific information about Budget spending in regions of Australia.
Myregion.gov.au came from the Labor Party's agreement with key independent MPs to gain power at the last Federal election.
The site offered a dozen translations employing Yahoo!’s Babel fish web widget.
The beta website offered forums for 55 regions, maps and an application to probe the relative merits of regional development wishlists.
When completed, it will offer a geographical perspective on spending activities for a wide array of Federal, State and Local Government investments.
It will rely on getting cooperation from other agencies and levels of government to access at least their summary data sets to fulfil its ambitious goal.
Additional features were promised over coming months.
The beta site was incomplete. An iTnews search for information about Gippsland, for example, showed only a blank page at the time of writing.
Reading Room Australia was behind MyRegion, picking up the $123,310 contract to build the Drupal-based site and incorporate social media components.
MyRegion was the 31st deal Reading Room Australia has done with the Federal Government totalling just under $2 million.
