Managed service provider Greenlight ITC has extended its long relationship with Richmond Football Club by replacing Checkpoint firewalls with Watchguard’s security suite.
Richmond, better known as the Tigers, is an Australian Football League (AFL) club, with a history stretching back to 1885. The club has won 13 premierships, the last in 2017.
It also had 15-year-old firewalls and no ability to allow remote access.
With football often involving analytics of player performance, that meant staff had to prepare data to take on the road to away games.
“You had to be working off hard drives or transferring the files over to a local desktop to view them,” Richmond FC IT manager Simon Reinsch said.
“We wanted to lock that down and not just have everyone taking things off site and using it accordingly.”
Greenlight ITC deployed the security suite running on two WatchGuard M370 firewalls in a high availability configuration, which were configured offsite before installation.
The company also assisted in refreshing old firewall policies, including configurations from the AFL and ticket booking agency Ticketmaster.
The firewalls were also used to set access policies for the club’s upgraded wi-fi network, splitting the previously single SSID into four. Each new wireless network has its own privacy and security policies.
“If I look across our portfolio of ICT, the WatchGuard Total Security Suite doesn’t raise its head in terms of giving us any pain at all. WatchGuard is a rock solid solution,” Reinsch said.
“The capabilities I’m learning about [the suite] - and our use of them - is growing more and more.”
