McAfee names new A/NZ channel boss

McAfee has a new local channel boss, as a six-month search initiated by Gavin Struthers' departure to a global channel position comes to an end.

Craig Nielsen has been appointed the new senior director of channels and alliances for Asia Pacific, following Struthers’ January move to the role of senior vice president of worldwide channel operations.

Nielsen was previously the managing director of open source provider Red Hat’s New Zealand operation. He joined McAfee last month.

Additionally, former Ingram Micro business development manager Aileen Paterson has been appointed as McAfee’s national partner manager across Australia and New Zealand.

“Craig’s expertise, experience and knowledge of the local channel market will be a fabulous asset to McAfee’s team,” McAfee’s APAC president Steve Redman said in a statement.

Among Nielsen’s first tasks as channel boss was to award the company’s top-performing channel partners of the past year. Winners included Datacom, Westcon A/NZ, Dimension Data, Loop Technology and Leading Edge Information.

McAfee today also announced the availability of its Profitability Stack channel initiative. The worldwide program includes deal registration, incumbency advantage, tiered pricing, teaming plans, rewards, and rebates for partners.

It includes 5 percent additional margin on first renewal, 25 percent additional margin for incremental new business, 10 percent for suite upgrades and cash rewards up to $US35,000.

The company recruited over 350 partners in the SMB specialisation in APAC over the last year, Struthers told CRN in January, saying it will remain a focus through 2012.

McAfee will, however, increase its focus on its commercial enterprise operations over the coming year, thanks to growth of over 20 percent during the last 12 months.
