The finalists include; Nuix from New South Wales, Impedimed from Queensland, m.Net Corporation from South Australia, JadeLiquid Software from Tasmania , E Ball Games from Victoria and Sensear from Western Australia.
The winner will receive a prize designed to help them launch their business in the US.
Eddie Sheehy is the CEO of Nuix, an eDiscovery and electronic investigation software company based in Sydney. Its technology is used by law enforcement agencies, consulting firms, regulators, and litigation support companies.
It has resellers in 16 countries all over the world including Frontier Software in Melbourne.
“Nuix is a unique company. We started out in 2000 doing R&D for seven years and didn’t start selling anything until the middle of 2006,” he said.
“This is the first time Nuix has been nominated for the program. We heard about it through the Australian Technology Showcase (ATS) where we have been a runner up twice for innovative based products.
“It is quite fabulous being a finalist. It means we are being recognised for being innovative. Every six months we bring out an additional functionality and we are being recognised for that, now we are going to go to the US and show them our capabilities. We are also looking to grow the business by another four resellers early next year,” he added.
Now in its sixth year, G’DAY USA: Australia Week 2009, from January 13 –24, 2009, showcases all things Australian, including food and wine, travel, film, arts, culture, fashion, business and investment.
Each of the six finalists, who participated in Australian State competitions will travel to Los Angeles to participate in the 2009 Australian Innovation Fast Pitch for venture capital investors in the Southern California region on January 13th.
They will then travel to Silicon Valley, for the 2009 Australian Innovation Shoot Out to present their business’ revolutionary new innovation to a panel of judges on January 15th.
This is followed by a luncheon profiling what makes Australia a globally competitive location to invest in leading edge innovation, R&D, engineering and product development; and strategic operations.
In Silicon Valley, the panel of judges will rate the contestants based on the uniqueness of their technology, and their potential for success in the US market place. “These businesses represent the best and brightest that Australia has to offer,” said John Olsen, Consul-General to New York.
“Previous years have demonstrated that this program can not only help profile Australian innovation in the US, but we have seen tangible results where these companies are providing cutting edge solutions in medicine, manufacturing, security and bio science.”
The event is sponsored by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Qantas Airways, Tourism Australia and the Australian Trade Commission.
It is also linked to Advance, a not-for-profit organisation, funded by the Australian Government to link Australian professionals overseas.
“The Government of New South Wales is thrilled to have Nuix representing our state in the Innovation Shootout,” said Barry Buffier, director general of the New South Wales Department of State and Regional Development.
“New South Wales has a history of producing exciting new innovations, and Nuix is one of the latest examples of that tradition,” he added.
