LAN 1 signs Vegastream

Niche IP security and storage distributor LAN 1 has signed a distribution agreement with VoIP gateway provider Vegastream.

Under the deal, LAN 1 would move the vendor’s range of SOHO and enterprise VoIP gateways which connect analogue and digital PBXs to IP networks, to the small and medium business reseller channel.

Daniel Lee, managing director at LAN 1, told CRN that the distributor would be chasing resellers that have installed PBXs, have telephony but not IP skills.

There was a good bunch of resellers who needed to "evolve themselves" from the PBX world to IP telephony, he said.

Products in the Vegastream range include the Vega 10/20 and 25 gateways for the home, the Vega 50 and Vega 400 systems for businesses which the company claims deliver the benefits of VoIP without having to replace existing PBX systems.

The Vegastream product was not a hard sell, according to regional sales and marketing director Chris Papaioanou. The real cost would be in reseller and customer training which would determine success with the products, he said.

Reseller product demonstrations and training would commence in November.

LAN 1 was also investigating striking another distribution arrangement with German vendor snom, which manufacturers IP PBX products and related software in order to complete the picture. snom is a major Vegastream partner.

LAN 1 would use cost-effective D-Link IP phones at the front end, Lee said.

LAN 1 is Vegastream’s second distributor. The company signed voice and data integrator Symbio Networks in April in order to reach service provider and large enterprise customers.
