Telstra-owned KAZ launched PC Backup, a hosted online backup and data restoration service for desktop PC and laptops.
The product would be sold by Telstra and KAZ sales teams, but there are no set plans to offer it to channel partners.
KAZ is hosting the service on EMC's CLARiiON mid-range enterprise storage platform.
It also used Iron Mountain’s software, Connected, to back up and recover information from users' laptops, desktops and archive data.
PC Backup uses software called Delta Block which is designed to backup only the changes that had been made to a file, instead of the whole file itself.
It also uses SendOnce technology to backup files once regardless where they sit on the network.
Peter Wilson, general manager of marketing at KAZ said it was important for businesses to have in place data recovery measures to protect data.
Users only require an internet connection to use PC Backup. The product is a ‘set-and-forget’ service, adaptable to individual preferences, he said.
The product pricing and packaging depends on the amount of data being backed up.
It starts from $27.50 for 2GB of server space per month up to $70.40 for 100GB.
Once a customer signs on the backed-up data is then sent to Telstra’s Sydney and Melbourne servers for duplication.
KAZ also planned to provide consulting services to assist potential customers meet local and international risk assessment and business continuity management tasks.
