The company has created a wholly-owned subsidiary, J2 Retail Systems Pty Ltd, which will replace the former third-party distribution channel responsible for sales of J2 580 and J2 650 models in Australia and New Zealand.
The third party distributor was EBN which closed its Australian office.
Moray Boyd, co-founder and managing director J2 said Australia has been a fast moving market for the company.
"We quickly established ourselves with a distributor and we've enjoyed high demand for our products. The opportunity has now arisen for us to expand our operations here."
Boyd's colleagues, Phil Wild and Aleks Nikolovski will head up the Sydney office.
Boyd said it has assembled a team of people who are very experienced in the market.
She said it was the right time to take its business to the next stage to address the demands of a growing Australian user base and the requirements of UK-based clients with local operations to standardise on J2 hardware.
J2 makes integrated PC-based touchscreens, LCD touchscreen monitors and point-of-sale hardware to the retail, hospitality and leisure.
