The storage and network security solution provider used to own packaging which held 245 units per pallet but the new packaging (including the new Prestige Portable Hard Drive) now fits 360 units into each pallet.
This means it has increased the quantity shipped within a given space by 46 percent.
It has also shrinked the space taken by point-of-sale merchandise by 34 percent.
According to Barry Aubertin, channel manager A/NZ Iomega Australia, the company is creating a positive impact on the environment by reducing its carbon footprint.
“We reduced the size of our packaging in order to reduce haulage requirements and make shipping cost effective and more environmentally friendly,” he said.
“The reduction in dimensions not only include that of the packaging itself but also the shipping carton (and our retail display cases), resulting in 46 percent more units shipped at a relatively similar cost.
“So we ship more products in an environmentally friendly manner that’s also good for business.
“In turn the end result for Iomega resellers is increased shelf space to display and stock more products as well as the ability to purchase more units per box.
"This is one of Iomega’s first purposely created green initiatives,” Aubertin added.
Iomega is a wholly owned subsidiary of the EMC Corporation.
