InTechnology signs Great Bay Software
InTechnology Distribution signed an agreement to distribute Great Bay Software’s “Beacon” end-point security offering that provides administrators with information to manage an “authenticated” wireless network.

US-based Great Bay’s Beacon hardware and software application is claimed to be unique as it provides administrators with tools required to configure all network edge ports, InTechnology said.

It profiles network end points and portrays the state of the network before and after the deployment of 802.1x wireless authentication.

The product address two concerns in the deployment of 802.1x; the type and location of all non-EAP (extensible authentication protocol) endpoints (those that will not authenticate using 802.1x) and the sheer number of ports that must be individually configured due to the presence of non-EAP endpoints, InTechnology said.

Mark Winter, director of sales and marketing at InTechnology, said a big challenge for enterprises is knowing what is plugged into their network at all times. “The only way they could do that is physically go to the switch cupboard and find out what’s attached where,” he said.

Winter claimed the product is completely unique and there was no other technology that allows the user to monitor changes to ports at any given time. “The big thing is that ensures that their end point security deployment adheres to the policies [they have] in place,” Winter said.

For example, it will alert the administrator if a wireless network user unplugs a laptop and plugs in another machine with a virus, he said.

InTechnology said it was looking specifically for channel partners that are specialising in the 802.1x and endpoint security space to sell the product.

Boston-based Great Bay has been in operation for the three years.
