Ingram Micro relocates 16 positions to Malaysia

According to Jay Miley, managing director, Ingram Micro, the outsource centre was first established in 2007, and has housed several of the company's back office operations, including credit.

He said during the 24 months or so that it has been in existence, its Malaysian Offshore Centre has grown to over 80 associates strong, supporting the needs of  its Australian and New Zealand operations.

"We have decided to move an additional 16 heads in our credit function to Malaysia, thus resulting in redundancies for our local staff in Sydney," said Miley (pictured).

"In an effort to continue to serve our partners - both vendors and customers alike - in the manner in which they expect and  deserve, and in order to continue to invest in the growth opportunities that are present in the market,  a decision was made to expand upon the investments  already made in  our A/NZ Malaysian Offshore Centre.

"A transition plan is underway to transfer the roles and responsibilities of those affected by end of April.

"I am confident that the transition will have minimal if any impact on service levels for our customers," he added.

An industry insider close to Ingram said the cuts were in line with current trends.

'With the economic market the way it is, it makes sense for a business to cut staff to help the organisation stay viable," said the source.

"It's only 16 people, other technology companies are cutting staff in the hundreds."
