HPE revamps private cloud portfolio with Morpheus software

Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) has upgraded its private cloud solutions, offering customers potential cost savings of up to 90 per cent on virtualisation licensing through its newly available HPE Morpheus software family.

The enterprise tech giant describes this as a "generational leap forward" for private cloud technology, combining HPE's disaggregated infrastructure with unified virtualisation and cloud management capabilities.

HPE Private Cloud Business Edition is now available with HPE Morpheus VM Essentials, which delivers multi-hypervisor support and self-service cloud consumption while dramatically reducing virtualisation costs.

This adds to the estimated 2.5 times lower total cost of ownership already provided by HPE's disaggregated hyperconverged infrastructure.

"Enterprises are at a pivotal moment in IT modernisation where they must address escalating management complexity and increasing virtualisation costs to free investments for core growth areas," Fidelma Russo, executive vice president of Hybrid Cloud and chief technology officer,  HPE, said.

The HPE Morpheus Software family, now generally available, includes VM Essentials for virtualised workloads and Enterprise Software for unified cloud management.

Both offerings include the KVM hypervisor from HPE, and use per-socket licensing to reduce costs.

VM Essentials allows organisations to manage both HPE virtual machines and traditional VMs, enabling customers to mix and match according to their specific requirements.

The solution features enterprise-grade virtualisation with global deployment capability and comprehensive support from infrastructure to workload level.

HPE's AI-driven operations promise to predict and prevent up to 86 per cent of potential issues, freeing up valuable IT resources.

Commvault will be the first VM Essentials ecosystem partner to support image-based VM backup and recovery with an upcoming release in May.

For larger enterprises and service providers, HPE Morpheus Enterprise Software unifies cloud management across different environments.

The solution can deliver applications approximately 150 times faster into various hypervisors or clouds and reduce cloud costs by up to 30 per cent through analytics-powered rightsizing.

Both Morpheus Enterprise and VM Essentials are hardware-agnostic and have been validated to run on Dell PowerEdge servers and NetApp AFF arrays, alongside HPE ProLiant hardware.

When combined with HPE Aruba Networking CX 10000, VM Essentials can lower total cost of ownership by up to 48 per cent and increase performance by up to 10 times.

HPE has also introduced new Cloud Platform Services for Virtualisation Modernisation to help customers through the transformation process.

HPE Private Cloud Business Edition with HPE Morpheus VM Essentials is available immediately, with new Business Edition systems featuring HPE SimpliVity expected in the third quarter of 2025.
