HP signs DICOM for new scanners

By , on

HP has signed electronic data capture specialist DICOM Australia to exclusively distribute two new scanners what the latter claimed would be part of a stronger push into Australian SMBs.

DICOM would package Kofax EDC software with HP's Scanjet 8250 and Scanjet 8290 scanners to distribute the bundles to system integrators.

HP claimed that DICOM Australia was a global leader in the data capture market. Seamus McGuinness, MD at DICOM Australia, said HP reckoned the bundle would guarantee high performance.

“Kofax's Virtual ReScan software will work with HP's new scanners to produce perfect scans every time and will dramatically reduce the need for re-scanning or pre-scan document sorting,” he claimed.

However, McGuinness also said that the partnership would enable DICOM to up its marketing to smaller companies. “Partnering with HP also enables us to capitalise on the company's strong expertise and wealth of experience in the SMB space,” McGuinness said.

John Gowland, a market development manager for digital imaging at HP Australia's Imaging & Printing Group, said the decision to exclusively partner DICOM was “easy”. “HP chose DICOM ... as it has ... a solid understanding of what the market needs and wants,” Gowland said.

HP was marketing its Scanjet 8250 and Scanjet 8290 as particularly suitable for smaller companies. “The HP Scanjet 8250 and HP Scanjet 8290 scanners broaden HP's content management portfolio of capture devices, offering extended document management capabilities in PC connected scanning environments,” Gowland said.

The Scanjet 8250 claims up to 4800 dpi optical/hardware resolution, a 15 pages per minute (ppm) ADF and duplex facility, optical character recognition (OCR) software, and Newsoft Presto! Pagemanager document organisation software.

The Scanjet 8290 offers 25ppm ADF with duplexing capability for the scanning of double-sided pages, a dual USB Hi Speed and SCSI interface, ISIS and TWAIN drivers, and OCR software.

DICOM Australia is a subsidiary of DICOM Asia, a business unit of British company electronic capture developer, vendor and consultancy DICOM.
