Emerson Network Australia's joint initiative with Cisco, IBM and Dell, to free up power, cooling and space capacity without compromising on resource availability or flexibility.
Dubbed 'Energy Logic' the training framework is a free ten-step training program, which will allows resellers to offer clients energy efficient data centre design, said Peter Spiteri, marketing director, Emerson Network Power.
After completing the vendor-neutral Energy Logic program resellers will be able to tailor strategies to each data centre to demonstrate quantified savings and estimated ROIs, claimed Spiteri.
“As voice becomes the problem of IT Managers, companies can’t afford to lose power. The reseller that can offer power protection knowledge and solutions is in the better position,” he said.
Using a combined approach that takes in infrastructure, best practice and technical components, resellers using the Energy Logic program will be able to offer end users significant cost benefits, claimed Spiteri.
“The ten step program is a structured, prioritised approach to minimising energy. We’re talking about restructuring the room, so that when you make these ten steps you can save around 50 percent of your energy and grow into the free space over a few years. You’ve gained back energy capacity, taken back space and the heat issue is minimized or properly managed,” he said.
Resellers are able to offer numerous strategies to data centre managers; including the use of core multithreading and low-power processors (70w instead of 91w) can achieve considerable reductions in power usage. Implementing server power management and high-efficiency power supplies will also further decrease power usage.
According to Spiteri, by changing power distribution architecture and implementing server virtualisation to cut down on the number of machines required, businesses can begin to achieve substantial reductions in energy bills. The addition of Blade servers instead of rackmounts will also yield impressive kilowatt savings.
Emerson will be holding a free road show in the first two weeks of July to allow channel partners to learn more about this new scheme.
