EMC backs-up resellers
Shane Moore, EMC national product manager, said the new products and capabilities include EMC Disk Library 3D 1500 and 3000; EMC Disk Library 4000; EMC Avamar Data Store Gen 2 and EMC Avamar 4.0 and EMC NetWorker Fast Start.

In an interview with CRN, Moore said the margins on these solutions are one of the best in the market and will provide incremental revenue opportunities.

“For example, the Networker Fast Start product is a fully featured NetWorker solution that organisations can buy upgrades for such as new server clients and application clients, de-duplication and back to disk options,” he said.

According to Moore, from an EMC Disk Library point of view, partners can now generate an incremental revenue stream as more capacity is required. There is also the ability up-sell remote replication to a secondary EMVC Disk library.

“EMC is taking a leadership role in the data de-duplication market. Data de-duplication is the hottest topic in the backup market today. Our partners will be able to leverage the momentum that we are creating and capitalise on the new opportunities,” he said.

Moore claimed the other significant announcement for its partners is the introduction of new EMC Disk Libraries. Disk Libraries can be connected to an IP LAN and are easy to implement, easy to configure, and contain advanced features such as data de-duplication. These De-duplication features enable substantial cost savings for backup-to-disk – a key way to improving backup and recovery windows, he added.

He said that NetWorker Fast Start should be targeted at commercial/small enterprise organisations because they face the same challenges as larger organisations. These organisations are ever-aware of issues such as shrinking backup windows, the need for fast restores while lowering costs, and the need to have backups online for longer periods of time. However, accordingto Moore, they don’t have the resources to manage a complex solution.

“Also for those organisations that have limited budget for a full function backup solution, the LAN based EMC Disk Library with built-in data de-duplication can be positioned with organisations that are looking to adopt a low cost, easy to use disk based backup solutions and are happy with their backup software,” he said. “That is organisations do not have to make any significant changes, simply connect the Disk Library to their IP network.”

Moore claimed Avamar (which provides data de-duplication at the source), is ideal for those organisation that have remote offices and those that are deploying VMware.
