DiData wins Deloitte deal for infrastructure-as-a-service

Multinational Deloitte Consulting has commissioned Dimension Data as its cloud service provider for its clients.

The arrangement means that DiData's Managed Cloud Platform (MCP) will be used as the cloud for Deloitte to host its application layer developed for its clients.

"Our immediate roll-out at Dimension Data will be with our entire suite of enterprise products and managed analytics businesses," said Deloitte Consulting principal Paul Roma.

Dimension Data's cloud allows Deloitte's customers to instantly access infrastructure spanning five continents. Australia currently hosts three MCP data centres in Melbourne, Sydney and Canberra.

A Dimension Data Australia spokesperson told CRN that while today's announcement only applies to North America, international opportunities may arise in the future. Dimension Data's cloud business is headquartered in Australia, headed up by chief executive Steve Nola in Melbourne.

Dimension Data senior vice president Shelley Perry said that the company is investing in equipment from big-name vendors to beef up the MCP: "We're investing in new, advanced technology from companies like the EMC Federation and Cisco to enable a hybrid cloud strategy."

Roma said that Deloitte was forced to act to keep up with the move to cloud. "We are seeing a rapid shift in the market, from general low-cost cloud computing, to subscribers looking for tailored enterprise cloud solutions.

"The combination of Deloitte’s enterprise products, managed analytics, business transformation expertise, and Dimension Data's hybrid cloud platform, and their technology alignment with EMC, will enable clients to rapidly move forward quickly and with confidence."
