Di Data launches second tech support centre

Deputy NSW premier Andrew Stoner opened Dimension Data's second global service centre in Sydney today.

The government had been lobbying strongly for the $107 million facility to be built in NSW.

Stoner emphasised the important contribution made by the state to Australia’s ICT industry.

“NSW accounts for 39 percent of ICT businesses and industry value-added output in Australia,” he said, adding that the 164,000 people working in ICT in NSW made up 37 percent of the industry in Australia.

Based in the Sydney technology precinct of Macquarie Park, the facility start operating in February and employed 130 people.

Dimension Data planned to expand the headcount to 300 over the next five years.

The Macquarie park facility would help to serviceAustralian customers as well as provide support to global clients with local operations.

It was supplemented by a second facility at nearby North Ryde.

Recently appointed managing director of Dimension Data Australia, Rodd Cunico said the company’s ability to provide genuine local support had helped with the retention of its Australian customers.

“We have also been able to both win and retain major national and NSW-based managed services and outsourcing clients, with the support we are able to provide from our North Ryde operational base," he said.
