Dells signs Simms New Zealand

Dell has signed a distribution agreement for its small business products with Simms International in New Zealand, signalling a shift in Dell's Asia Pacific channel strategy, which up until now had avoided distribution partners.

Dell has distribution agreements in India, China Thailand and now New Zealand. According to Simms Australia's spokesperson there are no plans to sign with Simms Australia.

"The two companies are very different and Paul Johnston, managing director of Simms International New Zealand, runs New Zealand. This [deal] is his objectives and his project," said Belinda Stevens, marketing and communications manager at Simms International told CRN.

Simms International, which launched its New Zealand this month, will stock the complete Vostro range of products as well as a range of servers, peripherals such as projectors and laser printers. In addition the company will have access to Dell storage and networking products.

Johnston said "the deal is a tremendous opportunity and Simms will be working closely with Dell, as well as our channel partners to help grow their business".

"We are pleased to be able to offer an even more convenient way for New Zealand SMB partners and customers to access Dell products and services," said Jay Turner, SMB channel director for Australia and New Zealand.

"While giving customers another option, the introduction of a distributor establishes a partnership that strengthens Dell's solutions offerings and improves speed and reach across the country," he said.
