Defence spends $10m more on Objective upgrade

The Department of Defence will spend at least $10 million adding functionality to a major upgrade of its document management system.

The upgrade, already in progress, will see some 25,000 users migrated from version 6.3 to version 7.5 of Objective's electronic document and records management software.

The upgrade is scheduled to be completed this year.

Defence has used Objective as its mandated Electronic Document and Records Management solution since 2000.

The extra money allocation announced today would be used to facilitate "additional functionality and support of Defence's existing Objective implementation."

Another 60,000 users could be given the software over the next two years "although this is still being investigated by Defence", the software company said in a statement today.

Other Objective customers within the Australian public sector include: the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC), IP Australia, and WA Police.
