David Henderson bows out from EMC

EMC's Australia and New Zealand channel general manager David Henderson has announced his retirement after 35 years in the industry.

Henderson will consult to EMC's channel business after he vacates his post next month. He has been general manger since joining the storage giant in 2002.

As the end of the year approached, Henderson told CRN that he became reflective, looked around and thought "it was time" to do something different.

On top of the increased family time, Henderson said "it's a matter of going out there and doing something you're passionate about".

"It's called the golden years for a reason," he said.

Henderson said he won't be playing golf five days a week, "because I don't play golf" but will give back to the community.

"There's lot's of enterprises that welcome volunteers. It allows me to do things that aren't financially driven," he said.

More relaxed travel and adventures were on his list of priorities: "I've done a lot of travel, just ask Qantas, but I'd like to do it slower."

"I'll be walking the Great Ocean Road with a friend next April. Everyone drives it so I'll be walking it.

"I have not finished working, but doing something different with my life. It's goodbye, but not farewell," he said.

Henderson's Linkedin profile shows that prior to EMC, he was a director at distributor Tech Pacific and the general manager at Toshiba. He has worked for AST and networking company 3Com. He had sales and marketing roles at 3M.

EMC Australia and New Zealand president David Webster said "Hendo", as he's known in the trade, "instilled a channel ethos within EMC that has been embraced and embedded within the culture of the organisation".

"David [Henderson] took a long-term view to what was required, developed a five-year strategic business plan, and successfully executed on it. I congratulate him on his success and wish him all the best in his retirement."
