CipherTrust launch phishing registry

Security appliance vendor CipherTrust has launched a new phising registry aimed at automatically notifying organisations of online fraud attempts.

Organisations can register their name for free at PhishRegistry.org, which will then send out an alert on potential scams using the registered name. These alerts can then be passed on to customers and end-users.

Relevant, related, sites of interest, such as the bank a company uses, can also be registered.

CipherTrust chief technology officer Paul Judge said PhishRegistry.org would act as a neighbourhood watch which could dramatically increase the speed at which organisations were notified of phishing attempts.

“Online fraud is a race between the bad guys, who rush to post false sites to snare unsuspecting users, and the good guys - legitimate businesses protecting their brand and their customers,” he said in a statement.

The new site would use a proprietary CipherTrust technology, Phisherprinting, to analyse and determine the legitimacy of websites.

PhishRegistry.org adds to CipherTrust’s existing end-user resources, TrustedSource.org and SpamArchive.org. The three form part of the company’s CipherTrust Research Portal.
