China continues to ditch technology from foreign companies in favour of homegrown products and services, this week saying the government has "excluded Symantec & Kaspersky" from an approved roster of security providers.
The state-controlled People's Daily tweeted the news Sunday, followed by a second Tweet that said China's government procurement office gave the nod to five domestic anti-virus software brands — Qihoo 360 Technology, Venustech, CAJinchen, Beijing Jiangmin and Rising, according to a report from Reuters.
This latest move is likely another volley in the war of words between the US and China over cyber spying.
In the past, China has protested the US's decision to charge five Chinese military officers with economic espionage and, claimed to be trying to curb the kind of cyber spying activities revealed by Edward Snowden, by scrutinising IT products and services for any security flaws that might facilitate espionage.
