Check Point acquires NFR Security for US$20M

Scott Ferguson, regional vice president at Check Point, Asia-Pacific told SC today that the move will enable the vendor to expand its intrusion prevention systems along with complimenting its expansion into the data leakage market.

“Security is not a one-off piece of technology, it’s about taking a layered approach,” Ferguson explained to SC. “It’s looking at applications and understanding the characteristics, and if they involve a threat.”

US-based NFR Security has a range of real-time business network securities ranging from protection against malware threats as well as information leakage.

The deal will see NFR’s detection engines integrate with Check Point’s current firewall, Internet and VPN security technologies.

Ferguson said Check Point has begun to merge the acquired technology. Products using the integrated technologies will be available from April 2007.
