Canberra-based cloud computing provider Cloud Central is developing an application program interface (API) in Version 2.0 of its infrastructure-as-a-service engine in an attempt to attract web developers and resellers to its first channel program.
Cloud Central offers infrastructure and storage on-demand from kit hosted at Canberra's TransACT data centre.
Version 2.0 of Cloud Central, likely to be made available by the end of July, will introduce a site-to-site VPN (virtual private network) capability for customers to connect securely to Cloud Central's cloud infrastructure over the public internet.
Version 2.0 will also provide an ability to design and build virtual machines without using Cloud Central templates, as well as controllable snapshots for backup, support for 10GB Ethernet connectivity and support for Ubuntu 10.0.4 or Windows Server 2003 instances.
Cloud Central founder Kristoffer Sheather said Windows Server 2003 support was required as some customers are "well and truly behind the times" in terms of server operating systems, but still need cloud connectivity to modernise their IT.
The API will allow for application developers to integrate their apps with Cloud Central and for cloud service aggregators to include Cloud Central in their platforms.
Sheather said he was looking for resellers such as consultants - who would use Cloud Central as part of a managed services offering; ISPs - who would offer virtual machines without building out a cloud in-house; and hosting providers looking to offer disaster recovery or backup service on behalf of customers.
He said the services will remain branded as 'Cloud Central' for now but has white-labelled services under consideration for the future.
