Business silos get in the way of cloud: report

Operational silos within an organisation may hinder the adoption and effectiveness of cloud computing, a new report has found.

The report, Cloud for business managers: the good, the bad and the ugly, was commissioned by database giant Oracle. It sampled 1,355 executives around the globe working at companies with revenues in excess of $65 million.

The key findings of the report included the impact of poor cloud integration on business productivity. Over half of businesses sampled indicated staff had experienced downtime due to poor cloud integration within the overall business. This downtime even affected departments with no cloud facilities due to the knock on effect.

Poor integration with other non-cloud applications also impacted on productivity, with over 80 percent of respondents indicating integration issues stopped them from getting the best out of cloud.

Further, three quarters said their ability to innovate had been hindered due to a lack of integration.

Another key finding was that respondents were unable to get the best out of their cloud installations due to business process siloing.

The full report can be found here.
