Brocade has appointed Colin Dixon as its principal engineer.
He will oversee the software networking engineering team, managing and playing an important hand in Brocade's open-source initiatives including OpenDaylight.
Dixon was singled out for his sustained contributions to Linux-based project, OpenDaylight, and his experience with software-defined networking.
Brocade's ANZ country manager, Greig Guy, said: "Colin has spent his career focused on where the network is headed, not where it is today, and this will serve as a big benefit to Brocade as we continue to refine our strategy.
"Colin brings a deep and technical background that spans both the hardware and software spectrums that will define next-generation mobile and cloud networks."
Dixon was previously a researcher at IBM's Austin research lab.
