Aussie war veterans get IT job training from ServiceNow partners

ServiceNow has announced a partnership with Soldier On in an effort to help Australian war veterans reintegrate into society through IT education and training.

The enterprise cloud company also named partnerships with Citadel Group, Accenture and CSC, which will run training and placement programs to support Soldier On in its goal to produce what they called the best reintegration program of the generation.

Miles Jakeman, chief executive of Canberra-based Citadel – himself a former attendee of the Australian Defence Force Academy – said the company had a proud history of working with defence and the Soldier On project suited its passions and expertise.

“Citadel supports Soldier On by providing veterans education and training opportunities including nationally accredited training courses, CV preparation and assistance in finding employment,” he said.

In its new venture with ServiceNow, the ASX-listed managed service provider is co-ordinating a training package to assist veterans transition their skillsets to a new environment.

“We’re confident that with their existing focus and determination the veterans will be graduated from the program with a strong understanding of IT infrastructure library, IT service management as well as the generalist skills to be successful in a technology-driven workforce,” Jakeman said.

Over the past four years, Soldier On has provided veterans and their families with free counselling sessions, wellbeing activities and volunteering programs.

The pilot program will begin next month with 12 veterans set to take part in a three-week intensive program encompassing desktop productivity, ITIL foundation and a ServiceNow administrator’s certificate.

ServiceNow ANZ managing director David Oakley said IT training would be highly valuable to veterans as the Australian industry grew.

“With our corporate and government footprint rapidly expanding in Australia, we want to provide Aussie veterans with the opportunity to transition into a new career with rewarding work and expanding employment prospects,” he said.
