Aussie three-way merger creates reseller powerhouse

Three Australian resellers have merged to form a new major player in the Australian channel and one of the biggest specialist Autodesk CAD VARs in the world.

A2K Technologies commenced trading this week, combining the operations of AEC Systems, KarelCAD and ADA CADPartners. Together they have revenues of around $70 million, which the directors said put the combined entity on track to becoming one of the top 500 private companies in Australia.

CAD is the world’s leading program for 3D design with A2K positioning itself as a global supplier of technology to industries such as mining, infrastructure, building and manufacturing.

The new entity has 150 staff working across offices in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Auckland and Beijing. The bulk of the staff are from AEC Systems and KeralCAD with only a small number from ADA CAD Partners.

The deal was brokered quickly, with negotiations commencing only in October last year, according to a spokesperson for the company.

A2K will operate with two CEOs; Fari Fanaeyan from AEC Systems and Paul Laycock from KeralCAD. The rest of the management team will comprise key leaders from the businesses.

The company said the individual operations would continue to run as normal, but customers would reap significant benefits from the newly pooled expertise and resources.

“In addition to the far deeper level of technical service offerings, we will benefit from our combined operations, resources and infrastructure that has characterised the unique businesses until now,” Laycock said.

A2K said sales and services for Autodesk and all other existing vendors will be combined under the new business. It said two other entities associated with the parties, CSI Global Services and PhoenxPLM, would remain separate from A2K Technologies.
