Also Technology has closed it Queensland branch office citing a rental increase and staff leaving as reasons for the closure.
Ming Ho, a spokesperson at the distributor, said Also closed the QLD office because the owner of the building wanted to increase the rent to $75,000 a year.
“Increasing the rent to that amount means our QLD office would cost more than our office in Sydney,” she says.
“Around the same time as the rent increase, some employees left and so did our branch manager, we just decided to close the shop.”
Ho said Also has no plans to re-open the office until it finds another location and hires a new branch manager, which could take up to six months.
“It’s very expensive going up to QLD to look for the right location and hiring more employees. Honestly the whole market is very difficult and it’s hard to make any margins,” she said.
Customers in the state will now go through to Also’s Sydney office. However smaller resellers will be transferred to Also’s sub-distributors, Compuworld and XIT.
“We are aware we will lose customers but we want to make sure the office in QLD is in a good location with the right person to head it up,” said Ho.
