Adobe brings forward patch cycle to fix PDF flaw

Adobe has moved forward its quarterly patching cycle in order to fix a pair of flaws.

The update is expected to be released 5 October, but is normally timed to arrive on the second Tuesday of the month alongside Microsoft's patches.

The first patch addresses a critical vulnerability in Adobe Reader and Acrobat 9.3.4 and earlier versions, which was uncovered at the beginning of September.

"This vulnerability could cause a crash and potentially allow an attacker to take control of the affected system," according to an Adobe security bulletin. "There are reports that this vulnerability is being actively exploited in the wild."

The update will also fix a flaw in the Flash player, which was last patched only last week.

Adobe has been heavily criticised over the security of its products, and is set to sandbox Reader in its next major update.
