The Australian Communications Industry Forum (ACIF) has called for comment on a draft code that would regulate telecommunications contracts for consumers and small businesses.
Anne Hurley, chief executive officer at ACIF, told iTnews that the organisation was hoping to get submissions from the "widest possible range of interests".
Hurley said the code was scheduled for publication in December, with public submissions closing 5 November. According to a statement from the ACIF, the code would aim to address "the intelligibility and fairness of contracts for mobile, home and small business phone services as well as internet services".
"A strong and viable Australian communications industry is only possible while it maintains the confidence and trust of its customers," Hurley said. "Consumers need to know they are entering into fair contracts when they sign up for telecommunications services."
After the public comment period closes, the ACIF's working committee would look at the submissions before finalising the code for publication.
