The tour begins on the third floor of the manufacturing facility at Odawara, south of Tokyo, Japan, which is responsible for building about 15 percent of Hitachi Data Systems’ products globally. This floor houses the printed circuit board (PCB) assembly lines, of which we toured line 1. This photo shows a wide-angle view of the scale of the operation. The machines in the immediate foreground are Solder Paste Printers made by Panasonic. They apply a lead-free solder paste onto the circuit board before surface mount components are placed on the board.
