Sol Trujillo, Telstra
After several key roles in telecommunications in the US, Trujillo was appointed Telstra chief executive in 2005. He had a fractious relationship with the government, and following his tenure described Australia as “backward and racist” in an interview with the BBC.
Despite his comments, his record at Telstra speaks for itself: Telstra share price under-performed the market by around twenty percent, losing close to $25 billion in value, and customer complaints surged 300 percent. Current chief executive David Thodey replaced Trujillo in 2009.
