iPod - Given its current cultural ubiquity, the iPod, introduced in October 2001, was met with a lukewarm response from techno-pundits when it was released. However, with the strong combination of iTunes, which helped people get songs onto their devices, and the later iTunes Store, which created the market for legal downloads, the iPod has become a touchstone. Sure, there were MP3 players before, and the iPhone has since replaced the iPod in many people’s pockets, but it was the iPod which showed consumers they could have their music whenever and wherever they wanted it.
