CRN hosted a roadshow aimed at Australia IP builders and independent software vendors. Leading software innovators attended the breakfast events, which took place on 5 June in Melbourne and 7 June in Sydney, to get the first glimpse of research conducted by CRN and sponsored by Ingram Micro and Microsoft.
The events were hosted by CRN with support from Oscar Trimboli (pictured), an author, mentor and former director of Microsoft Office Division Australia.
A summary of the research will be published on CRN in the coming days. The full report can be downloaded from Ingram Micro at www.ingrammicrocloud.com.au/isv.
Ingram Micro Cloud was the lead sponsor of CRN's research and event series, which it also supported in 2017. Ingram Micro's guest speaker was Lincoln Lincoln, VP, Asia Pacific & Japan at CloudBlue (pictured).
CloudBlue is the distributor's new independent software division targeting service providers looking to build, sell, and monetise cloud services. It is based on a technology platform that Ingram Micro has built following a series of acquisitions over the years, including Odin.
Brett Gordon, Microsoft ISV partner development manager, and Sharanya Srikanth, Microsoft product manager, both presented in Sydney, where they discussed the vendor's programs to support IP builders to scale and how to integrate with Microsoft's two marketplaces, AppSource and the Azure Marketplace.

Analysis of the research found two types of ISVs: those who are designed from the beginning as globally orientated and those that are designed from day one to succeed domestically and then aim for overseas markets.
For a software company, the decision between 'start global' or 'stay home' is a strategy that should be defined on day one. ISVs have had success with both.
Oscar Trimboli leads the interactive table discussions in Melbourne, where participants delved into the research and learned more about Microsoft and Ingram Micro's programs.
The research, which covered 150 Australian software companies, found that roughly 50 percent had appointed channel partners, and the other half had not. The events had a major focus on how to build channel programs, and the pros and cons of working with resellers and distributors.

Steven Kiernan, editorial director of CRN and iTnews, welcomes the guests to Sydney and provides an overview of the research.
Companies with resellers tended to be more globally oriented, generating higher revenue from international clients and with more ambitious targets for overseas expansion.
