What's hot in data centres? We ask Fastrack Technology
Nathan Nogic

What hosting or data centre services do you provide?

Fastrack Technology provides co-location, networking, managed services, managed disaster recovery, private and hybrid cloud and high capacity cloud connectivity in conjunction with NextDC, Equinix, Vocus, Microsoft and AAPT.

Where are your data centres located?

We have strong relationships with our data centre partners, NextDC and Equinix, and facilities across Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Brisbane and Canberra as well as locations across the world. This gives our clients access to the best facilities and network providers.

When did your company first get involved in this area?

In 2009, we noticed there were few Australian managed data centre providers who could make it simple, quick and scalable to host their data outside of their premises. We’ve been expanding our reach and services ever since.

What are your credentials around hosting data centre services?

Fastrack maintains numerous competencies and certifications including: ITIL, Microsoft Data Center, Cloud Productivity, Cloud Platform competency, Microsoft Cloud OS Network partner.

Have you heard about any interesting trends in this space lately?

There’s less demand for a single ’private’ or ‘public’ cloud solution. Customers want a customised, gradual shift to the cloud and their needs change every time we see them. We’re offering more short-term contracts and scaling point solutions which can be decommissioned or re-purposed as needs shift.

Can you tell us about a recent deployment you have been involved in?

One unique solution was a training facility environment for a multinational IT vendor. They required a large number of servers, a high-capacity connection to the Azure public cloud, with 128 GB of RAM. We delivered this at NextDC and rapidly delivered networking, storage and compute – at a cost well under our competitors.

What is driving customers' uptake around these services?

Fastrack is seeing a significant uptake in hosting and data centre services by organisations who are seeking close proximity to cloud services. This has been driven by a requirement for cost-effective, high-capacity, low-latency connections to public cloud services such as Microsoft Azure.

Data centres are… ?

Flexible, highly connected and telco-independent, enabling customers to focus on growing their business instead of spending time worrying about where to put their infrastructure or how to connect to the ever-evolving cloud ecosystem from their own premises.
