Carving a printer business out of fleet management

With Smartprint Fleet Management managing director Jason Ganis.

What printing brands and services do you specialise in?

We act on behalf of the client and are generally appointed to provide an holistic outsource solution. We are not governed by any OEM quotas or placement targets, so we naturally trend towards best bang for the buck, quality, uptime and strong service level agreements.

When did your company first get involved in this area?

After starting out of an office in the Sydney CBD in 2001, we found that printer fleet management was an area that 90 percent of Australian companies had overlooked. Since our inception we have grown dramatically and now service some of Australia’s largest organisations.

What certifications do you have that apply to printing?

SmartPrint was doing managed print services before they even existed, thus [our name]. We have all the certifications and credentials possible, including being a Telstra Business Awards finalist in 2013 and a CRN Fast50 award winner in 2012. We are also a member of the Managed Print Service Association.

Which distributors do you use?

Ingram Micro is one of our main distributors, as we launched a turnkey joint venture with them in 2013 to assist their resellers and channel in supplying print and managed print services. Other distributors we use are Synnex, Dynamic Supplies, Dicker Data and Alloys.

Have you heard about any cool or interesting developments in the printing space?

SmartPrint is launching a per-seat model targeted at Top 500 businesses and government. We have been researching and testing the market for a while now to get it right.

Can you tell us about a recent printing deployment you have done?

SmartPrint only services customers from an holistic perspective, meaning we supply and implement customers’ entire fleets. We recently implemented fleets at Lowes (a national clothing retailer), Cromwell, Ingram Micro, Fitness First and Work Health Group.

What is driving customers’ printing projects?

Outsourcing, so that customers can function on their core business and reduce costs.

Printing is...?

A necessary evil, although it usually sits at the bottom of the project list and is a burden for
the customer. Printing is our passion and we are good at it.
