Dicker Data weathers Sydney tornado

Dicker Data was aiming to be "back at 100 percent" a day after the Sydney tornado ripped through Kurnell, causing damage to local homes and businesses.

The distributor, whose 13,000 square metre warehouse is based in Kurnell, avoided any damage or injury from the freak weather, which saw wind gusts of to 213km/h tear through the area.

Ben Johnson, Dicker Data general manager of marketing & strategy, thanked the resellers and vendors who reached out to express their concern. "There was no impact for us – we're just thankful none of our staff are hurt and the facility is untouched."

He confirmed that there had been a "small impact on local deliveries" due to road closures, clean-up crew and the "media circus" in the area, but said the Dicker team was "doing everything we can to expedite [deliveries]".

"We really thank our customers for their understanding and their support of us during this time," said Johnson.

Dicker Data was dispatching trailers of interstate orders overnight Thursday, according to its website. "As many local orders as possible have been processed and dispatched today. There are still a number of outstanding local orders that will be dispatched as a priority tomorrow morning."

The tornado "caused great damage through Torres Street, Kurnell and saw many properties without roofs, fallen powerlines and trees blocking roads and driveways", according to NSW State Emergency Services, with many Kurnell residents without power due to the storm and the SES warning people about the risk of asbestos from displaced building materials.
