Victorian schools enlist ASG for $10m Microsoft deal

ASG has won a $10 million contract to provide Microsoft managed services to Victoria's Department of Education and Training.

The solutions provider announced the deal as "up to $9 million", but Victorian state government records suggest a value of $9.98 million. The agreement is for two years initially, with options of three one-year extensions.

"ASG will provide fully managed services for a number of key technologies, hosted from DET data centres, for the Information Technology Division (ITD) at the department," read the announcement.

Government records categorise ASG's supply as "Microsoft Technologies Service Support (MTSS) - Managed Services".

ASG already had an existing relationship with the DET to maintain the application and infrastructure layers for the payroll system eduPay and HR system Recruitment On Line, both based on Oracle's Peoplesoft technology.

"Through ASG’s in-depth understanding of the department’s ITD requirement and our proven expertise in the education sector, we are able to implement a cohesive and accountable service delivery model that ensures operational ownership," said ASG chief executive Geoff Lewis.

"State government departments are looking for cost-effective, scalable and flexible IT systems."

ASG reported a small increase in both revenue ($162.7 million) and net profit ($9.5 million) for the year ending 30 June. State government work was a major contributor to its success in recent times, especially in NSW with Amazon Web Services technology.
